Having my work featured in Southern Home magazine in a piece titled “Design with Intention” was both exciting and deeply meaningful. It was also a moment that allowed me to pause and reflect on what that phrase truly means to me, both as a designer and as someone who believes deeply in the power of home. It’s easy to get caught up in the surface of what we do in this industry, but for me, design has always been about something much more personal.
To design with intention means to listen first. Every client I work with brings their own stories, rhythms, and aspirations to the table. My role is to understand how they live, what brings them comfort, and where they find joy. A home should reflect the people who live in it, not just aesthetically, but emotionally. That’s where thoughtful design begins.
It also means creating spaces that work beautifully and live effortlessly. Whether it’s designing a family gathering space that encourages connection or selecting fabrics that balance beauty with durability, every decision I make is guided by the question: How will this feel in everyday life? That’s the heart of intentional design—spaces that aren’t just seen, but felt.
Another part of designing with intention is honoring the existing character of a home. I believe in working with the architecture, not against it, and finding ways to enhance what’s already there. Whether it’s a historic detail we choose to highlight or a modern element we introduce carefully, thoughtful design respects a home’s story while helping it evolve for the people living in it now.
At its core, intentional design is about creating spaces that feel deeply personal and enduring. Trends come and go, but a home that reflects your life, your memories, and your values will always feel right. It’s about layering textures, choosing meaningful pieces, and allowing the space to tell a story that is entirely yours.
Being able to share this philosophy in the pages of Southern Home Magazine was a meaningful milestone for me, but even more important is the work I get to do every day, helping clients bring their stories to life through the spaces they call home.
